Nestled between the Karrokoram range in the north and the Himalayan range to the south, it displays amazing geological features. The central area of Ladakh includes the ranges of the Zanskar and the Ladakhi range, these are included in some of the popular treking routes and typify the breathtaking arid beauty of the region. Ladakh is a great place to visit for those with an interest in treking or mountaineering. The region is also home to many buddhist monasterys which are renowned for there unique architecture and painted interiors.The capital of Ladakh is Leh, this unique city hosts many cultural and religous festivals and has great markets featuring an array of Tibetan and Kashmiri craft items including pashmina scarves, thanka paintings and wooden carvings.

ITINERARY

Day 01: Delhi - Leh
Arrival at Leh airport, to be received by our representative and transfer to our pre-arranged hotel. Lunch will be served at 2.00 PM, after lunch visit Leh Market, Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa. Overnight Hotel

Day 02: Leh-Hemis (43 kms.)
Full day of sightseeing, visiting the three most important monasteries of Ladakh - Hemis Gompa, Thiksey Gompa and Shey Palace. Hemis is one of the largest and wealthiest monasteries in Ladakh and houses about 150 monks; it also stages the annual Hemis festival. On the way back to Leh, we visit the superbly situated, 16th century, Thiksey Gompa, which is perched on a hill top. Last stop is the ruined Shey Palace, once the summer palace of the pre-Tibetan kings. The palace monastery houses a large, bronze, blue haired Buddha statue. Back to Leh hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 03 : Leh - Pangong Lake
After early Breakfast leave for Pangong Lake (14,500 ft), through Changla Pass 17,350 ft., it is the third highest motorable road in the world. 1200 hrs. arrive Pangong,it is the highest salt water Lake in the World, shared by two countries India & China. Packed or Hot Lunch will be provided. Enjoy the beauty of the lake on the Banks of pangong while appreciating the changing Colors and fascinating high altitude of the Lake. Drive back to Leh by the same route, Overnight Hotel.

Day 04 : Khardong la pass (5580m)
After breakfast drive to Khardong la, the highest motorable road in the world. Return to Leh by afternoon. Hot Lunch at Hotel. After the Lunch drive to visit Gurudwara Pather Sahib, Magnetic Hill and Sangam of Zangskar and Indus River, Overnight Hotel.

Day 05 : Leh - Delhi
Tour concludes. Ensure a punctual transfer to Domestic Airport for another breathtaking mountain flight back to Delhi.

LEH: Ladakh, a part of Jammu & Kashmir State in north of India consisting of two districts Leh and Kargil. Leh with an area of 45110 Sq Km makes it largest district in the country in terms of area. It lies between 32 to 36 degree North latitude and 75 degree to 80 degree East longitude. The district is bounded by Pakistan occupied Kashmir in the West and China in the north and eastern part and Lahul Spiti of Himachal Pardesh in South East. It is at a distance of 434 Kms from Srinagar and 474 Kms from Manali. Leh district comprises of Leh town and 112 inhabited villages and one un-inhabited village. The total population of Leh district is 1.17 lacs.

Pangong is a brackish water lake located in Changthang Plateau bordering Tibet.The lake once ‘had an outlet to Shyok River, a tributary of Indus River, but it was closed off due to natural damming.’ A striking feature of Changthang region is the presence of several such brackish water lakes, including Tso Kar and Tso Moriri besides a few smaller ones. Nomadic herders called changspa inhabit the grass-laden flat lands of Changthang and make a living by rearing Yaks and Pashmeena Goats. Spangmik Village is a permanent changspa settlement next to Pangong, where the inhabitants are now beginning to find additional income from tourist inflow.

Khardung La is situated 39 km by road from Leh. The first 24 km, as far as the South Pullu check point, are paved. From there to the North Pullu check point about 15 km beyond the pass the roadway is primarily loose rock, dirt, and occasional rivulets of snow melt. However, this pass is in better repair than many of the surrounding passes (Tanglang La, for example). From North Pullu into the Nubra Valley, the road is very well maintained (except in a very few places where washouts or falling rock occur). Hired vehicles (2 and 4-wheel-drive), heavy trucks, and motorcycles regularly travel into the Nubra Valley, though special permits may need to be arranged for travellers to make the journey.
